August Message to Families

Posted Date: 08/08/2025

August 8, 2025

Dear WHS Students & Families,

We are so excited to welcome you to the 2025-26 school year! The first day of school is Tuesday, August 26th. We are busy readying the school for your arrival. Beginning on August 18th the building starts to come back to life with our Student Government meeting to prepare for the year and our fall events. Our new teachers are welcomed to Weston on August 19th and our returning teachers join us on August 21st as we continue to prepare for your arrival.

There is a lot of information in this first communication, please be sure to scroll through for information on schedules, 9th grade orientation, new student orientation, student parking, open campus, and Back to School Night.

PowerSchool Demographics Update

In order to keep our student information current it is important for families to review your child’s profile yearly. The PowerSchool Parent Portal will be open on August 11th at 10:00am for families to update your demographic information. This update must take place before students will be able to access their schedule on August 22nd. We recommend that you complete the update by August 20th to ensure you do not have any issues on the 22nd.

Student schedules will be available through the Student & Parent PowerSchool Portal on August 22nd. If a family has not updated your demographic information you will not have access to the course schedule. It is in everyone’s best interest to update your demographic information prior to August 22nd and as early as August 11th to ensure timely access to your child’s schedule. A reminder will be sent on August 11th when the portal is open for this update. Updates take 24-48 hours to complete so update made on August 21st could potentially delay access to a student’s schedule on August 22nd.

9th Grade Orientation

Orientation for incoming 9th grade students will take place on Monday, August 25, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Students should enter through the Athletic entrance and the fun takes place in our New Gym. Our Link Crew team has prepared an exciting and informative program to ensure that our 9th graders are ready to begin this next chapter.

New Student Orientation

On Friday August 22nd, from 10am to 11am we welcome families new to Weston and the high school to our New Family/Student Orientation in our Library Learning Commons. Members of our administration and school counseling team will be on hand to welcome our new families, provide a tour, review schedules and other pertinent information for a successful start to the school year.

Student Parking

Juniors and seniors wishing to park on campus must complete a junior or senior parking form. It is important to read the instructions and be sure to have all necessary information at the time of submission. We will begin accepting senior parking forms on August 18th in the main office from 8am to 3pm. We will receive junior parking forms beginning on August 20th. Spot selection is first come first serve.

Limited Open Campus

At WHS we have a limited open campus policy which allows for eligible students in grades 11 and 12 to complete a permission form to leave campus during unassigned times. Students must also follow the appropriate procedures and exit and reenter at the main entrance/front lobby and scan their student ID. The permission form can be found HERE, students not meeting the appropriate expectations may have their open campus revoked.

Class of 2026

Your senior year is an exciting time and we want to help you make the most of it while also supporting your wellbeing. As we begin the school year your school counselors along with Ms. Green in the College and Career Center will provide you with the information you need to guide you throughout your year. Be on the lookout for information regarding SchooLinks, the Common App, as well as College Rep visits. More to come!

Senior Yard Signs

It’s time to order your lawn signs for the CLASS OF 2026! This is the largest fundraiser for the Class of 2026.  All proceeds go directly to helping to reduce costs for Senior Specials throughout the year as well as the Post Graduation Event (PGE) in June. As a special bonus this year, you can also purchase a graduation flamingo! See the link here to order. Deadline to order is August 11th! Any questions please contact Tammy Roberts: troberts@emailcorner.net

  • To purchase your legacy brick, click here, bricks will be installed in the WHS courtyard.

  • The PTO is bringing back the flocking this fall.  To flock your friends and neighbors (or yourself!), click here

Signs will arrive in August, prior to the start of school and be placed at the end of your driveway.  Cost as of August is $50 for the sign, $15 for the flamingo.

Senior Car Decorating

Seniors will be in the senior parking lot on Monday, August 25th from 1:00 - 3:00pm decorating their cars, as is traditionally done. Students are responsible for bringing their own car marker and cleaning up after the fun. Seniors who have ordered shirts will also receive them at this event.

PACT (Advisory Program)

For our new and 9th grade families, our advisory program continues to evolve. Known as PACT (Positively Achieving Community Together), it meets once weekly on Wednesdays, mid morning throughout the school year. Students stay with their PACT Advisor for all four years. This is a great opportunity for students to be connected to one adult in the building while also participating in various lessons from Portrait of the Graduate work, our counseling curriculum, connections activities, Student Government spirit activities and much more.

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be available beginning on Friday, August 22nd. It is imperative that parents/guardians complete the demographic update on PowerSchool in order for students to see their schedule in PowerSchool. We recommend that parents have this update completed no later than August 20th to ensure seamless access to the portal and schedule when it opens for schedules on August 22nd.

Schedule Changes

Per our Program of Studies and conversations last spring regarding schedule requests, schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:

Permitted Changes

Deadline

Change resulting from a previous year course failure

Start of the new school year

Change resulting from completion of approved course for acceleration

Start of the new school year

Change resulting from school-based scheduling error

Start of the new school year

Change to meet a WHS graduation requirement or other specific, documented institutional requirement (e.g. California State University)

Start of the new school year

Addition of a course to achieve full-time status

Start of the new school year

Addition of a course to fill a gap in the schedule  (provided there is a seat available and adding the course requires no other changes to the schedule)

End of the 8th school day of the semester for semester courses

End of the 16th school day for year-long courses

Drop of a course to create a free period OR level down in the same course (with no record on the transcript)

End of the 16th school day of the semester for semester courses

End of the 32nd school day for year-long courses

At Weston High School we consider a student’s schedule a contract. We spend an incredible amount of time creating our master schedule to fulfill the needs of our students. Changes are not taken lightly and should be made only under the above parameters and through consultation with a student's school counselor.

School Schedules

Bus assignments will be available in PowerSchool when the portal opens on August 22nd.

  • New carpet in our band room

  • TV Monitor installation to support students (displaying schedule & time)

  • Upgrades to Math and Literacy Labs (Thank you PTO!)

Camp College Success

A huge thank you to Randi Green for the incredible work it takes to organize and facilitate Camp College for our rising seniors. Half of our senior class took part in this program which helps our rising seniors get a head start on the college application process. It was once again a huge success and seniors left feeling some relief and prepared as they head into the fall. Thank you to our school counselors: Meredith Jackson, Meg Sullivan, Arielle Luksberg, Eric Horton, and Mike Parlanti for your support, planning and facilitation of the event as well. Thank you to our teachers who also came to help our seniors as they started on their essays: Sara Winant, Renate Roehl, Erin LeBris, Kara Swezey, Venessa Eisenman, Eric Jennette, Damien Long and Matt Risoli. We hope our seniors are feeling supported and encouraged!

Communication Protocol

We have updated our communication protocol. Please remember that the best person to contact is the staff member closest to the situation. Often this is the classroom teacher. For concerns regarding anything that is going on in a classroom or grades this is your first step. The protocol is intended to support the most effective and efficient system to resolve any concerns. The protocol can be found on our website under School Information or HERE.

Weston High School is a wonderful place to grow and learn. We take pride in our school, our students, and teachers and what we can all accomplish when we work together and support one another. We are looking forward to seeing our students and families back in the building, the summer is always too quiet. As always if you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me: meghanconetta@westonps.org.

Kindly,

Meghan
