The Week Ahead 9/1/24

Posted Date: 09/01/2024

September 1, 2024

Dear WHS Families,

We had a great first week at Weston High School. The week kicked off with our 9th grade orientation on Monday, followed by the first day of school and ending with our Trojan Kickoff at the end of the day on Friday. Our students were truly incredible, they cheered each other on, we walked in unity around the track and then formed our trademark “W” to celebrate this new school year.

Junior & Senior Accountabilities - Open Campus

If you received an email regarding owed books or fines it is very important to return them or pay your fine. These materials are needed for current students and we would greatly appreciate your attention to this matter.  All these materials must be returned by Friday, September 6th. Students with remaining accountabilities AFTER September 6th will have their open campus privileges suspended until fines are paid or materials returned.

9th Grade NWEA

During the first few weeks of school Weston High School administers the Northwest Education Alliance (NWEA) assessment to our 9th graders. 9th graders will be taking these assessments during their math and English classes. English classes will be assessing on September 4, 5, and 6 while math classes will be assessing students on September 10, 11, and 12.

The information gleaned from these assessments will be used to support instruction, interventions and allow us to monitor progress as students grow throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Math and Literacy Labs

Weston High School offers support to all students in reading, writing, and math through the Literacy Lab and Math Lab. Students may work with teachers both within their scheduled classes and in the library by appointment. Our past website's URL has changed so please bookmark the new link to reserve appointments. Drop-ins are also welcome. You can also access the Academic Support homepage by clicking the link HERE

Company Auditions

Auditions for this fall’s drama production will begin the week of September 16th. More information to come on the chosen play!

Club Fair

Our Club Fair will take place during PACT on September 18th. We know that it is so important for students to be connected to their school and community and get involved. This is an opportunity for students to see all of the existing clubs Weston High School has to offer. Finding purpose should be a goal for all students as they chart their course through high school. Clubs and activities can be a great way to do this! Please encourage your child(ren) to get involved…

Canvas

Weston High School uses Canvas as our Learning Management System. This is your go-to to find updates on your child’s courses, assignments, projects, and homework. To create an account and set yourself up as an observer of the course please follow the directions HERE. If you have any questions regarding a class that your child is enrolled in, your first stop will be to email the teacher.

PowerSchool

Weston High School uses PowerSchool as our Student Information System. This is the portal you use to view your child’s schedule, attendance information and grades. Any concerns regarding assignments, grades or attendance in a course should first be addressed with the teacher, ideally by the student first. If you have not already created a parent account for the portal please follow the link HERE to do so.

College Admissions Rep Visits

Every year in the fall our College & Career Center, led by Ms. Randi Green, welcomes so many College Admissions Reps so that our students have an opportunity to get a preview of a school and practice their questioning skills, as well as getting to understand the questions to ask to help them make informed decisions. We encourage our 11th and 12th graders to take advantage of these visits. Information about the rep visits can be found on our SchooLinks page. Students must have a pass and must let their classroom teacher know prior to attending a visit. Students can login to SchooLinks through ClassLink. Parents/guardians can follow the link HERE to login in.

Communication Protocol

We believe that a strong system of communication is paramount to the success of Weston High School. To that end proper communication channels support the efficiency and effectiveness of the staff at WHS every day. Please consult this Communication Protocol should you have concerns. This tool will allow you to identify the appropriate staff members to assist you depending on your area of concern. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
